Puntland Ministry of Interior holds workshop on democrat decentralization

UNCDF/JPLG assisted the Ministry of Interior in backstopping Local
Development Fund (LDF) activities in Puntland, by overseeing district
LDF project implementation, monitoring project progress, and leading
Puntland district qualify access to LDF Programme.


On the 11th February, the Ministry of Interior invited the mayors of 7
districts (Garowe, Gardo, Bossaso, Galkacayo, Jeriban, Bayla and Eyl)
in Puntland, 4Regional Governors ( Nugal, Karkar, Bari, and Mudug, DGs
of the Ministry of Health, Education and Public Work to discuss
ongoing democratization process in Puntland in general, and local
governance service delivery initiatives in particular.

The workshop will help the participants understand the principles of good
governance, democratic process, achievement, and challenges in
Puntland, upcoming democratic election and its effect to the local
government’s service delivery.
The workshop will last for 3 days, and expect to increase district
awareness in Puntland democratic process, local government election,
district service delivery taking the benefit of UN JPLG LDF Programme.
Puntland Minster of Interior Gen Abullahi Ahmed Jama (Ilkajir), Deputy
Minister of Interior Mr. Ali Yusuf Col; Abdi Yasin, Name
Abdulaahi Said Yusuf DG of the Ministry of Interior, Deputy Chairman
of Puntland Election Commission attended the workshop. On other side
of JPLG, Ahmed Noah of UNCDF Programme Officer, UNDP/JPLG Project
Manager, Philip Cooper and other members of UNDP JPLG team attended
the opening remarks of the workshop.
UNCDF is one of JPLG partner agencies assigned for funding LDF
Programme. This workshop was serios of workshops the Ministry of
Interior conducted in this month (February) with the help of
UNCDF/JPLG.
