SEJASS condemns attack against journalist in Somalia (PRESS RELEASE )
June 9, 2012 // diyeeshe // News in EnglishSomali Exiled Journalists Association (SEJASS) has today condemned the attack against a journalist Mohamed Nor Mohamed Sharifka who was wounded on Friday night by unknown gunmen in Mogadishu and called on the government authorities to carry out a very quick investigation. "We Strongly condemn the intended assassination on journalist Mohamed Nor Mohamed Sharifka and call the authorities in Somalia to thoroughly investigate the case so as to hold those responsible for this aggression accountable" said Mohamed Osman Hussein, SEJASS chairman. "Attacks against journalists endanger media freedom in the country" he said Mohamed who works for Bar-kulan Radio was shot twice by unknown three armed men with pistols when he was coming from the office to the home at Hamar-jajab district. He is now at Madina Hospital and had successful surgery. Six journalists were killed, more than 20 were wounded in Somalia since the start of the year. 160 Somali journalists are now in exile, living in Kenya, Uganda, Ethiopia and Djibouti.
